Former Arizona Rep. Gabby Giffords– the last congressional member to be shot in an attack — said Wednesday she feels for her former colleagues.
“My heart is with my former colleagues, their families & staff, and the US Capitol Police- public servants and heroes today and every day,” Giffords tweeted after news of the shooting of Majority Whip Steve Scalise broke.
Giffords was nearly killed in January 2011 when she was shot in the head a “Congress On Your Corner” event at a grocery store in Tucson.
Giffords was the main target of the attack which killed six people and injured 12.
Jared Lee Loughner pleaded guilty to the shooting in 2012 and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
