A 23-year-old Georgia college student vanished on Valentine’s Day — and hasn’t been in touch with concerned family and friends since, according to police and local reports.
Anitra Gunn, a senior at Fort Valley State University, was last seen at her boyfriend’s aunt’s home Friday morning, Peach County Sheriff Terry Deese told WMAZ-TV.
Her father, Christopher Gunn, said he last spoke to his daughter the morning of her disappearance, and that family and friends tried reaching out to her later.
“She never texted them back, didn’t call them back,” he told the outlet. “That’s when we knew something is definitely out of whack.”
Meanwhile, crews have been desperately searching for Gunn.
“We’ve also been out here searching the wood line, ditches, anything,” Deese told the station.
Anitra GunnFacebookGunn’s car was discovered damaged and without a bumper Saturday in a neighbor’s yard near her apartment, her father said.
Authorities believe the bumper “is very important” and whoever has it may know where Gunn is, according to Deese.
There are no suspects and no one has been arrested, the sheriff said.
Authorities have questioned Gunn’s boyfriend and towed his car as part of the investigation, he said.
“In cases like this, we are not going to leave any rocks uncovered,” Deese said.
Those who knew the student shared prayers and pleas for help on Twitter.
“Anitra was the only person I hang around with almost everyday,” friend @flawlessci wrote. “God please just don’t let it be the worst. I don’t know what I’ll do without her.”
“I’ve never in a million years would want to make a post like this about someone I love,” Asia Ward posted. “But #FVSU please help me find [Anitra] even if you don’t know her. It literally takes 2 seconds to repost this and/or a quick prayer to help her be found.”
Gunn is an agriculture major at Fort Valley State, and graduated from Atlanta’s Westlake High School in 2016, according to 11 Alive.
Anitra GunnFacebookUniversity officials told the station they are “deeply concerned” about Gunn’s well-being and are praying for her safe return. They are also working with authorities to help find her.
Multiple agencies are involved in the investigation, according to Fort Valley Police Chief Lawrence Spurgeon.
“If any harm has befell this young lady, the arrest and prosecution of the subject or subjects responsible will be of the highest priority for all agencies,” he said in a Monday statement.
