WASHINGTON — Air-traffic controller furloughs due to federal spending cuts will have a crippling impact on travel delays at New York-area airports, Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY) warned yesterday.
The layoffs, set to begin this week, could lead to delays of up to 80 minutes at La Guardia Airport and 50 minutes at JFK and Newark airports, Schumer said. “It’ll make flying on a normal day. . . seem like you’re flying in blizzard weather,” Schumer said at La Guardia. “That’s how bad these delays can be.”he said.
