Who needs Congress?
The Russell Senate Office Building has already been named for Sen. John McCain — on Google Maps.
Google MapsSenate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer proposed the name change after McCain died on Saturday, but Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell put the brakes the idea Tuesday, saying he would instead form a committee to examine best ways to honor the six-term senator’s legacy.
But Google Maps on Wednesday was already showing the building as the “McCain Senate Office Building.”
Google is generally tight-lipped about names are determined on its maps, but told the New York Times this year it’s a mix of third-party data, public sources and user submissions. People can submit changes online, and the search giant reviews the suggestions.
