More than 3,500 passengers and crew trapped on the Grand Princess because of coronavirus learned Saturday they won’t be getting off until government officials can figure out where to dock the cruise ship.

For the past week, the liner has been stuck off California’s northern coast, near San Francisco.

US officials and California Gov. Gavin Newsom are working on a plan to bring the Grand Princess into a noncommercial port, said Vice President Mike Pence, who is spearheading the federal response to the outbreak.

Pence spoke in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he was meeting with cruise-industry officials.

So far, 21 people on the ship, 19 crew members and two passengers, have been infected.

Pence said the government is also tracking a cruise ship that may have shared crew with either the Grand Princess or the Princess Diamond, which was quarantined off Japan in February.
