The Green Party could end up keeping millions of dollars it’s raising for a recount of the presidential vote in three battleground states.

Jill Stein, the party’s presidential nominee, has raised $6.35 million toward a $7 million goal to pay for recounts in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.

But she could raise more — and there’s nothing in the law to stop her from depositing it into the Green Party’s campaign coffers.

Stein has already raised about twice as much for the recount as she did for her actual campaign.

Laurence Tribe, a Harvard professor, said Stein’s effort is probably aimed at “trying to gain attention and establish herself as a national player.”
