A horrific video allegedly caught a Florida groomer wildly beating a disabled veteran’s service dog, officials said.
James Cordell Doughty Suthann, 37, was arrested Monday for reportedly attacking the German shepherd so brutally the dog required surgery to amputate its tail, the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office said.
Suthann faces animal cruelty charges in connection to the Feb. 6 incident at a grooming salon in Satellite Beach.
During the grooming appointment, Suthann picked up the 8-year-old dog named TT by the tail and swung the animal off the ground, deputies said. He also reportedly struck the service dog with a hose nozzle.
“The entire incident is captured on video and at one point you see Suthann cinch the pets head down so tight that the dog could no longer move and was obviously in pain,” Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said on Facebook.
The German shepherd’s owner — a disabled veteran who suffers from PTSD — was “devastated by the acts of cruelty against his pet and companion,” according to the sheriff’s office.
Officials said the service dog is in the “process of recovering” following the amputation procedure.
Surveillance footage of the violent incident won’t be released due to its “graphic” nature, officials said.
Suthann was arrested and booked in jail on $2,000 bond.
“If you hurt an animal in Brevard County, I will personally walk you into our jail and slam the door behind you!!” Ivey said Monday.
