Google Maps is making it a lot easier to search the newly named Gulf of America — officially switching from the Gulf of Mexico to comply with President Trump’s executive order renaming it.
Users now see Trump’s preferred title even while searching for the “Gulf of Mexico” — but only while searching in the US.

Google said it has made name changes before after they’ve been “updated in official government sources.” frank – stock.adobe.comThe names you see in the Maps app are based on your country location,” Google said Monday in confirming the switch had been made.
“People using Maps in the US will see ‘Gulf of America,’ and people in Mexico will see ‘Gulf of Mexico.’ Everyone else will see both names,” the search engine giant said.
The company said the move was “consistent with our longstanding practices” of reflecting official government names.
Likewise, Google Maps will also revert back to using Mount McKinley, not Denali, per Trump’s executive orders signed hours after retaking the White House for his second term in January.
President Trump signed an order to rename the Gulf of Mexico and Mount McKinley. REUTERSHowever, the name of the tallest peak in the US remained Denali on Tuesday morning.
Mount Denali was renamed by President Obama in 2015 per the request of the Koyukon, an Alaskan native group who had been fighting to have the name changed to Denali since 1975.

The US Coast Guard has been referring to the body of water as the Gulf of America in official news releases for weeks.
