A shooter armed with a rifle and tactical gear ambushed border agents as they walked into work Monday morning in McAllen, Texas.

The shooter, who has since been identified as 27-year-old Ryan Louis Mosqueda, planned the attack on Border Patrol agents stationed at the Rio Grande Valley annex, Fox News reports.

Cops fired back at Mosqueda, who is now dead, according to Fox News.

Mosqueda opened fire at the entrance to the federal building, injuring two officers and a Border Patrol employee, including one shot in the knee, the Department of Homeland Security said.

“Both Border Patrol agents and local police helped neutralize the shooter,” DHS said.

All three have been hospitalized.

Mosqueda was reported missing 20 miles away in Weslaco, Texas, around 4 a.m. Monday before he opened fire. He was also linked to an address in Michigan.

McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez told reporters Monday that cops received a call at around 5:50 a.m. when Mosqueda fired dozens of shots, according to the Associated Press.

“An hour and a few minutes later, he was at this particular location opening fire on the federal building and our federal agents,” Rodriguez said.

Mosqueda showed up at the Border Patrol office in his two-door sedan, which had something written on the outside that Rodriguez said was possibly Latin.

“What it means, or whether or not it is an underlying reason for him being here, I do not know,” said Rodriguez.

Police also found additional ammo and weapons Mosqueda brought to the scene.

“There are many, many more rounds of ammunition in his backpack,” Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez declined to share any motive for the attack.

The nearby McAllen airport was shut down, with all flights delayed in response to the shooting, the city said in a Facebook post.

“Due to off-airport safety concerns, vehicles and passengers will not be permitted to enter the terminal or parking lot. Access will remain restricted until further notice,” the city government wrote.
