HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. — State police say troopers have fatally shot a man who fled in a pickup truck after killing three people in rural central Pennsylvania.

Spokeswoman Maria Finn says the suspect fired at troopers responding to Friday morning’s shootings in Frankstown Township, about 70 miles west of Harrisburg.

At least one of the victims was shot at the Juniata Valley Gospel Church in Frankstown Township, about 70 miles west of Harrisburg, a prosecutor said.

The fleeing gunman then crashed head-on into a trooper’s car and got out of his truck and shot again at police, who returned fire and killed him.

Blair County District Attorney Richard Consiglio says the gunman killed two men and one woman.

Finn says one trooper was shot in his bulletproof vest and wrist. A second was struck by broken glass, and a third trooper was hurt in the car crash.

All are expected to recover.

The victims’ names haven’t been released.

Today’s deadly attack came on the same day that the National Rifle Association broke its silence on the Newtown massacre that left 20 children and six adults dead in Connecticut.

The gun-rights group called for an armed guard in every school, and blamed the Newtown school shooting on violent video games, movies and the media.
