A shooter wounded two Miami cops when he opened fire on police Thursday morning – and was later found dead inside a house he barricaded himself in, authorities said.

The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Mason Triana, suffered a fatal gunshot wound ending an hours-long standoff with authorities in the Allapattah neighborhood that began when police first responded to reports of gunshots, Miami Police Chief Manny Morales said.

It was not immediately clear if Triana was shot by police or turned the gun on himself.

Police said he had a “criminal past” with the Miami Herald reporting that while he’d been arrested in the past, he was never convicted of a crime.

Another person taken into custody is the brother of the shooter, and is only being treated as a witness, according to cops who spoke to local news outlets.

Police initially responded to a vehicle left alone in the middle of the street that was in the process of being towed around 6:15 a.m., the department said.

Cops checked out the scene and cleared it without incident, but returned to the area about an hour later when it received reports of multiple gunshots from a tech alert.

Police found a car that was “riddled with bullets” before the scene quickly turned to chaos when a gunman unleashed a hail of bullets, striking one officer in the knee and the other in the ankle, Morales said.

One of the gunshot victims is a sergeant and the other is a female police officer, according to reports. They are in stable condition and in “good spirits,” Morales said.

Triana holed up inside the home after his initial barrage, and at one point exchanged gunfire with law enforcement, according to Morales.

The reports of initial gunshots might have stemmed from a domestic dispute between siblings, Morales said, according to NBC 6.

Police even enlisted family members of the shooter in hopes they could convince him to surrender, sources told CBS News Miami.

A neighbor told NBC 6 he was on a run at a nearby park when he heard a series of shots that sounded like it was coming from a “machine gun.”

“Maybe like in 10 seconds, my ear actually could calculate like 30 rounds,” Jose Espinales said.

During the standoff, Morales encouraged neighbors in the area to hunker down, and urged other residents to stay away from the dangerous scene.
