Gunmen stormed Kabul University in Afghanistan on Monday, killing more than a dozen students and forcing thousands of others to flee the campus in a hail of gunfire, according to a report.
At least 22 people were killed and 22 others wounded when the group of militants stormed the campus in the Afghan capital, according to reports.
The shooters appeared to be targeting students as they attempted to flee the campus, one witness said.
“They were shooting at every student they saw,” said Fathullah Moradi, adding that he was able to escape through one of the university’s gates with a group of friends.
Vice President Amrullah Saleh, who has been tasked by President Ashraf Ghani with security for Kabul, called the attack an “intelligence failure” and blamed it on the Taliban, CBS reported.
The Taliban denied their fighters were involved in the shooting.

No group took responsibility in the immediate aftermath of the massacre.
The country has been plagued by violence ahead of a plan by the government and Taliban negotiators to meet in Qatar and try to broker a peace deal in addition to the US bringing home its troops.
