A headless, hand-less corpse was found in a fish tank inside the home of a missing San Francisco man, according to new reports.
The gruesome discovery came after neighbors of Brian Egg grew worried that they hadn’t seen the 65-year-old in weeks and called police requesting a welfare check, NBC Bay Area reports.
A man living at Egg’s home, in the city’s South of Market neighborhood, told police the homeowner was on vacation — and they seemed to buy it, neighbors tell the TV network.
But on Aug. 15, one neighbor says he spotted a private crime-scene cleanup crew outside the house — so he called police again, and they raided the residence with cadaver dogs, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Inside, they found the body in the tank with its head and hands cut off, sources tell NBC.
“It’s horrifying,” neighbor Scott Free told the Chronicle. “A dead body was in the house this entire time.”
Cops are still trying to determine if the body is Egg’s. It was so decomposed when they found it, they couldn’t even tell what gender it was, the paper reports.
They have, however, arrested a 39-year-old man named Lance Silva in connection with the missing person case, sources tell the Chronicle. He was busted Aug. 16 on charges of fraud, theft from an elder, grand theft and motor vehicle theft.
