A top House Republican on Tuesday urged embattled GOP Rep. Steve King to step down over his remarks in defense of white supremacy.

“I think he should find another line of work,” said Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), the No. 3 House Republican.

King (R-Iowa) questioned in a New York Times interview published last week why terms like “white nationalist, white supremacist, [and] Western Civilization” have “become offensive.”

Congressional Republicans have condemned King for his remarks, with GOP leaders on Monday removing him from his positions on the Judiciary, Agricultural and Small Business committees.

“[It’s] absolutely abhorrent. It’s racist,” Cheney said Tuesday. “We do not support it or agree with it.”

King has not given any indication that he intends to step aside before his term is up, tweeting Monday evening, “I will continue to point out the truth and work with all the vigor that I have to represent 4th District Iowans for at least the next two years.”
