A 46-year-old man was found dead inside a Pittsburgh home so packed with trash that emergency responders had to dig out a path to reach his body, authorities said.
Police in Pittsburgh were called to the home by the hoarder’s mother, who also lives at the residence, at about 6 p.m. Monday. Officers found the man’s body near a first-floor window of the Oglethorpe Ave. home — but a “large amount of trash” blocked them from reaching him, according to a new release by Pittsburgh police.
A hazmat team and rescue paramedics were also called to the home. The man, who was identified by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner as Larry Killian Jr., according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, was pronounced dead at the scene once emergency workers got to the body.
It was unclear how long Killian had been deceased inside the home. An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday.
Messages seeking additional comment from the medical examiner’s office were not immediately returned.
Teams from the city’s Department of Permits, License and Inspections were also called to the home, which was boarded up late Monday, WPXI reported.
