“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” stayed atop the box office for a third straight week — the last one in a record $10.8 billion year for movies.

The fantasy epic made nearly $33 million over the weekend, according to studio estimates. It has now raked in $686.7 million worldwide.

“Django Unchained” finished in second place for the weekend, with $30.7 million. And in third place, with $28 million, was “Les Misérables.”
