A security guard at a popular Hollywood grocery store gunned down a woman after she allegedly attacked him with a fire extinguisher and a screwdriver, police said.
The deadly clash occurred at the Ralphs supermarket in the 5400 block of Hollywood Boulevard around 3 p.m. Monday, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
Police who were called to the scene learned that a woman, believed to be homeless, grabbed a heavy fire extinguisher and was “using it as a weapon” against the grocery store’s armed security guard, Lt. Robert Peters, with the West Bureau Homicide Division, told the news station KTLA.
It was not immediately known what prompted the woman to turn on the guard.
The attacker then allegedly pulled out a screwdriver and moved toward the man, who responded by producing his gun and shooting her once in the upper body, according to police.

The accused attacker was rushed to a hospital, where she died from her injuries. She has not been identified as of Tuesday.
The guard was not injured in the deadly confrontation, reported CBS Los Angeles.
