Dramatic doorbell video released by Illinois police captures a homeowner fighting off a would-be robber in a Saturday home invasion that left another suspect dead, a report said Thursday.
The footage obtained by the Daily Herald shows Bradley Finnan, 39, and Larry Brodacz, 58, wearing masks and gloves as they approach the Arlington Heights home and knock on the door.
“Hey, how you doing, boss?” one of the intruders says before both walk inside.
Moments after the masked duo enter the home, yelling can be heard. About 20 seconds later, the homeowner shoves Finnan out the door and onto the ground, before repeatedly punching him.
Amid the struggle, the homeowner yells “Help” toward landscapers across the street, the footage shows.
Finnan then runs away and trips into the street as the homeowner rushes back inside.
During the home invasion, Brodacz was shot dead by the homeowner in what authorities said was self-defense, according to the Daily Herald. It’s unclear if he was killed before or after the homeowner’s outdoor struggle with Finnan.
Finnan was later captured by police. He was charged on Tuesday by Cook County prosecutors with murder and home invasion, the paper said.
