Relatives of four victims killed inside a Virginia home say the suspect in the slayings was a tenant who was treated like family.
David Maine, 24, was arrested Tuesday on four counts of murder and two weapons charges in Monday’s quadruple homicide in the Washington, DC, suburb of Dale City.
The victims have been identified as Miguel Flores, 44, his newlywed wife, Kelly Sotelo, 42, and the woman’s daughter from a previous relationship, 19-year-old Karrie Sotelo.
The fourth victim, 36-year-old Richard Revollar Corrales, was a tenant renting the basement at the home.
Relatives told station WUSA9 Maine was an acquaintance of Kelly Sotelo’s eldest son, Jimmy, and that he’d been renting a room at the home for eight months.

Karrie Sotelo, 19, was killed along with her mother and stepfather, as well as the family’s tenant, in Dale City, Virginia, this week.
“My sister never had issues with him,” said Kelly’s sister, Ketty Felipe Baltazar. “No fights, no threats, nothing like that. He didn’t have issues with my nephew or my niece. I do not know what led him to commit this murder.”
Kelly’s niece, Helen Felipe, said Maine mostly kept to himself, despite the family’s efforts to include him in their gatherings.
Relatives said Corrales had just arrived in the US from Peru two months ago and was taken in by Flores and Sotelo, who were also from Peru.
Officers with the Prince William County Police Department responded to a report of a shooting at the home around 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Basement tenant Richard Revollar Corrales, 36, had arrived in the US from Peru just two months before his death. WUSA9They found the doors unlocked and entered the home, where they discovered four lifeless bodies in different parts of the residence, police wrote in an update.
“The investigation revealed an altercation occurred inside the home. After the incident, the suspect left the residence and called 9-1-1 to report that someone had shot into the residence,” police said. “Officers arrived on scene and located the suspect a short distance from the home where he was detained without incident.”
Authorities said three of the victims were shot, but have not yet revealed how the fourth death occurred.

Police described the killings as “senseless” and did not provide a motive. FOX 5 DCRelatives told WUSA9 police have told them Kerrie Sotelo was not shot and that she was killed first.
“She was a very loving girl. A girl with pure heart. A clean heart. She was gentle and kind,” said one of her aunts at a vigil.
Speaking at a press conference Tuesday, Prince William County Police Chief Peter Newsham called the killings “senseless” and “horrific.”
Maine was arraigned Tuesday and is due back in court Dec. 13.
