Hong Kong’s summer of protests continued Sunday as demonstrators occupied various neighborhoods and a high-end shopping area before being pushed back by police in riot gear.
The anti-government rallies kicked off at public parks in different parts of the city and one turned chaotic when protesters used a homemade slingshot to hurl rocks at a police station.
At another demonstration, a musician played “Do You Hear the People Sing?” from the musical “Les Miserables.” The song has became a rallying cry for the protesters as they call for government accountability.
When cops cleared out one area with tear gas, the protesters hit up Causeway Bay, a luxury shopping area with upscale restaurants and department stores.
Hundreds of cars and buses stood at a standstill for about 30 minutes when protesters barricaded a major road.
