The vote in the House against President Trump on two articles of impeachment may run smack into Trump’s campaign rally in Michigan on Wednesday evening — creating yet another dramatic split-screen moment.
House members spent hours arguing over the parameters of the debate until a decision was reached around noon.
That leaves six hours split evenly between Democrats and Republicans to debate the articles of impeachment — abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
With procedural objections and other disruptions, the House vote could come around 7 p.m. — the same time Trump is expected to take the stage at a “Merry Christmas” rally in Battle Creek, Mich.
It would give Trump the rare opportunity to speak to thousands of his supporters in a critical battleground state as news breaks about impeachment.
Trump, who is scheduled to leave the White House for Michigan at 4:25 p.m., called out Democrats in an all-caps tweet.
“SUCH ATROCIOUS LIES BY THE RADICAL LEFT, DO NOTHING DEMOCRATS. THIS IS AN ASSAULT ON AMERICA, AND AN ASSAULT ON THE REPUBLICAN PARTY!!!!” Trump wrote.
Vice President Mike Pence, who held a “Workers for Trump” rally in Saginaw earlier Wednesday, will meet up with the president at Kellogg Arena.
At his stop, Pence thanked the crowd for coming out on a “blustery Michigan day,” adding, “on a day when there’s a lot of bluster in Washington, DC, as well.”
The crowd responded by chanting, “Four more years.”
