A Houston police officer drowned when his patrol car got trapped in Tropical Storm Harvey floodwaters, according to a report.

The officer was driving to work downtown Sunday morning when he got trapped in high water at I-45 and the Hardy Toll Road, the Houston Chronicle reported.

Search-and-rescue crews are in the process of recovering the body of the cop, reportedly a veteran of more than 30 years with the city’s police force.

The department has not yet formally notified his family.

“He was trying different routes, and took a wrong turn,” a high-ranking official, who asked not to be identified, told the paper.

The officer tried to get out of the car after getting trapped but was unable to, officials said.
