Human remains discovered over the weekend may belong to missing Arkansas woman Christy Rooks, who vanished more than two weeks ago, authorities announced.
The remains were recovered by state and federal authorities in a “crude grave site” about nine miles north of the city of Hazen on Saturday, Arkansas State Police said in a statement.
State troopers, special agents and the FBI were on scene since Friday — as the investigation into 42-year-old Rooks’ disappearance led them to a farm property and a home between Des Arc and Hazen, police said.
Forensics experts will attempt to identify the remains and determine a cause of death, authorities said.
Meanwhile, Rooks’ boyfriend, Earl Parks, 47, of Hazen, is being questioned by state police in connection with her disappearance, police said.
He was taken into custody and charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Rooks’ distraught mother said last week she was concerned for her daughter’s safety, since it was out of character for her to not keep in touch with loved ones.
Rooks, of Wynne, was last seen leaving her boyfriend’s home, according to reports.
