Homicide detectives are searching for answers after a suitcase with human remains was found near a creek in Indianapolis.

Authorities responded to a call around 1:30 p.m. Monday about the sickening discovery near Bean Creek on the city’s southeast side, according to the Indianapolis Star.

Several people were walking along the creek on Memorial Day when one of them opened the luggage out of curiosity.

“Just the fact that having a body in a suitcase is suspicious enough, how the person died, I don’t know,” Indianapolis Metro Police spokesperson Genae Cook told news station WXIN. “Regardless of how the person died, nobody deserves to be put inside a suitcase.”

The Marion County Coroner’s Office is working to determine the cause of death and the identity of the victim, officials said.

Authorities asked anyone with information about the case to call (317) 327-3475.
