Hurricane Maria on Monday turned into an “extremely dangerous” Category 4 storm, with sustained winds of 130 mph, the National Hurricane Center announced.

“The eye and the intense inner core is expected to pass near Dominica during the next few hours,” the Center wrote in a 5 p.m. update.

Maria is forecast to hit the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico on Tuesday night.
