Police in Florida are searching for a motive after a 21-year-old man strangled his pregnant stepmother in a cemetery.

Ian Anselmo called 911 last Wednesday to report he killed his stepmother, 39-year-old Sue Ellen Anselmo, at Eustis Cemetery in Lake County, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

“I killed my mom — she’s dead,” the stepson told dispatchers. “I strangled her.”

Responding officers discovered the mom of six bleeding and unresponsive in the driver’s seat of her Chevrolet TrailBlazer with a cord wrapped around her neck, the newspaper reported.

Sue Ellen, who was six weeks pregnant, succumbed to her injuries Monday at an Orlando hospital.

The mom’s brutal killing left family members stunned and authorities baffled. No motive was listed in the probable-cause affidavit.

It’s unclear what the victim and her stepson were doing in the cemetery.

“This whole thing seems so weird,” said John Anselmo, who was Sue Ellen’s husband and is Ian’s father. “We’re just racking our brains trying to figure out what happened.”

Charges were filed against Ian Anselmo for second-degree attempted murder after he allegedly admitted killing his stepmother. He was booked into Lake County Jail on $75,000 bond, according to court records.

A GoFundMe page was created to raise money to support the slain mom’s young children.
