An illegal migrant from Peru rammed his van into an ICE agent during a “targeted vehicle stop” in New Jersey on Monday, prompting the officer to open fire on the fleeing suspect, authorities said.
The chaos unfolded as immigration officers tried to pull over and arrest Friedrich Castillo-Ormeno, who was released in the US under the Biden administration, around 9:30 a.m. in Manahawkin, according to ICE.

“The driver then weaponized his vehicle and struck an officer resulting in the officer discharging his weapon.”
Castillo-Ormeno remained at large early Monday evening. An immigration judge ordered him to be deported in a Jan. 30, officials said.
The injured ICE officer was taken to an area hospital.
NBC Philadelphia reports the van’s back window may have been blown out when the agent fired his weapon.

Aerial footage from the scene showed about two dozen ICE agents wearing tactical gear, and the area cordoned off with yellow crime scene tape.
Vehicle attacks against ICE agents have surged more than about 3,300% since President Trump took office for his second term, an alarming uptick that federal officials have blamed on “radical rhetoric from sanctuary politicians.”
Between Jan. 21, 2025, and Jan. 7, 2026, agents reported 66 attacks compared to only two during the same period in 2024, according to DHS data provided to The Post.
