Journalists in Cleveland were already relegated to a work space near a pigpen, and now they’ve been warned not to dress like slobs.

The House Periodical Press Gallery sent an e-mail to reporters saying they can have their “credentials confiscated” if they aren’t dressed in “professional attire and adhere to journalist standards of integrity and conduct at all times.”

The convention attracts journalists from around the world who aren’t used to the decorum required to enter the Capitol Speakers Lobby to interview members of Congress (jackets required for men, no hats and no bare shoulders for women).

“People are coming in jeans and sneakers, just slobbish attire,” Rob Zatkowksi, director of the House Periodical Press Gallery, told Jezebel.com. “I don’t know if it’s a generational thing. We used to have problems with Europeans wearing jeans, but they were always stylish jeans.”
