Scores of fire hydrants in city parks have not been inspected for up to 25 years, The Post has learned.

In many cases, fire and parks officials don’t even know the location of these hydrants because they were never mapped. And no one knows how many there are.

Hydrants were placed inside parks off these roads 25 years ago, but the FDNY was not given responsibility to inspect them, said spokesman Frank Gribbon.

Gribbon says the FDNY is working with the Parks Department and the Department of Environmental Protection to map and inspect the hydrants in Central Park, where two weeks ago firemen were forced to stretch a hose 1,000 feet to douse a blaze at the Heckscher Playground building. The first three hydrants they tapped were inoperable.
