The chair of Iowa’s Democratic Party resigned on Wednesday, just over a week after the problem-plagued Iowa caucus that threw the party and 2020 presidential primary into chaos, according to a new report.

Amid intense pressure from the campaigns and his own party, Troy Price announced he was stepping down from the organization still reeling from the bungled first-in-the-nation race, The Des Moines Register reported.

“While it is my desire to stay in this role and see this process through to completion, I do believe it is time for the Iowa Democratic Party to begin looking forward, and my presence in my current role makes that more difficult,” he said in a letter to the Iowa Democratic Party’s State Central Committee, obtained by the Register.

“Therefore, I will resign as chair of the Iowa Democratic Party effective upon the election of my replacement,” he wrote.

It is unclear who will replace Price, who got his start as a political director for Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton in Iowa, but an interim chair will be appointed at an emergency meeting this weekend, according to the report.

A disastrous system meltdown caused by a poorly-designed app saw the results delayed for days and both Bernie Sanders and Pete Buttigieg declare victory.

Concerns over the validity of the results led to a bitter round of finger-pointing within the Democratic Party and both the Sanders and Buttigieg calling for a recanvassing of the votes.

“Whomever is elected will oversee the completion of the recanvass and recount process and begin the process of healing our party,” Price wrote.
