Iranian state TV on Friday released images of what the Islamic Republic’s Revolutionary Guard Corps says are pieces of the US drone it shot down 10 minutes after issuing a final warning.

The pictures purport to show fragments from the RQ-4A Global Hawk, which was shot down Thursday in what Iran claims was its territory. The US insists the unmanned drone was in international airspace.

Amir Ali Hajizadeh, commander of the Revolutionary Guard air forces, said the last warning was issued at 3:55 a.m. local time Thursday — and the drone was shot down at 4:05 a.m., according to CNN, which cited Iran’s Tasnim news agency.

Hajizadeh said some of the remnants were recovered from Iranian territorial waters near Kooh Mubarak.

Qader Rahim-Zadeh, deputy commander of the Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base, was quoted by Tasnim as saying the drone was targeted after multiple warnings “as a result of American aggressive temper and inattention to international laws.”

He added that due to US aircraft “repeatedly violating international laws and crossing identified borders,” Iran had issued several warnings to American planes, according to CNN.

“All those warnings and flying routes are recorded,” he added.

On Friday, Iran claimed it has “indisputable” evidence that the drone had violated its airspace.

Tehran said it had called in the Swiss ambassador, whose country has represented American interests since the severance of diplomatic ties after the Islamic revolution of 1979, to issue a formal protest.

Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi provided the ambassador with the evidence and “reiterated that Iran does not seek a war and conflict in the Persian Gulf.”

But he added: “The Islamic Republic of Iran would not hesitate for a moment to decisively defend its territory against any aggression.”
