Editorial: The Washington Post made a huge mistake in killing this cartoon

By Post Editorial Board

NOT THIS POST: The Washington Post has apologized (in full cringe mode) over the cartoon below, which the paper published Wednesday.

But the apology is the mistake, not the publication.

In it, artist Michael Ramirez makes a powerful point about what’s really going on in Gaza: Hamas is using the Palestinian people as human shields while blaming Israel for the result.

Indeed, the terrorists savor every innocent killed as Israel moves to eliminate the terrorist group that slaughtered roughly 1,400 of its citizens, along with mass rapes and the kidnapping of 200-plus hostages it still holds — and is also using as human shields.

Opinion editor David Shipley says the cartoon “was seen by many readers as racist” — though the drawing is simply, and plainly, a caricature of an actual Hamas spokesman who celebrated the Oct. 7 terrorist attacks across southern Israel.

The paper has pulled the ’toon off its website and is “also publishing a selection of responses to the caricature,” Shipley writes.

Texas office of GOP Rep. Monica De La Cruz vandalized over her support of Israel: ‘I make no apologies’

By Fox News

The South Texas office of US Rep. Monica De La Cruz (R-Texas) was vandalized this week by pro-Hamas sympathizers angry over her solidarity with Israel, the Republican congresswoman said Thursday.

De La Cruz has expressed support for Israel amid its military response to the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas terrorists that killed 1,400 Israelis in communities near the Gaza Strip.

Many pro-Palestinian supporters have criticized Israel for its bombardment of Gaza, which has resulted in thousands of deaths.

“On October 7th, Iranian-backed Hamas terrorists murdered over 1,000 innocent civilians, including many Americans, in the single largest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust,” De La Cruz said in a statement. “These savages burned babies in ovens, decapitated toddlers in front of their families, tortured parents before their children, and continue to hold hundreds of hostages.”

De La Cruz released images on X showing her office in the border city of McAllen vandalized with spray paint. On a window read the message: “Israel kills Jews too.” Another on the ground said: “You can’t escape your crimes Monica.”

“‘From the river to the sea’ means there's no Israel,” Netanyahu explained during an interview with Fox News “Special Report” host Bret Baier.

The Israeli prime minister denounced Tlaib’s comments, calling them “absurd.”

The NYPD is searching for four baby-faced vandals accused of spray painting antisemitic graffiti, including multiple swastikas, on the rooftops of four Upper East Side buildings last month.

The four boys defaced the buildings near East 85th Street and 3rd Avenue around 5:20 p.m. on October 9 — just two days after Hamas terrorists launched a deadly surprise attack on Israel, cops said.

Among the offensive scrawlings was the word “Hamas” in addition to several swastikas, according to police.

The group fled eastbound on East 85th Street. No injuries were reported.

The incident is being investigated by the NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force, police said.

Jewish billionaire quits Columbia board over ‘abhorrent’ threats to Jews on campus

By Jorge Fitz-Gibbon

Jewish billionaire and philanthropist Henry Swieca quit the Columbia University board of directors over what he called the Ivy League school’s “moral cowardice” for allowing a “blatantly anti-Jewish” sentiment to thrive on campus.

“To my deep regret the reputation and integrity of Columbia University, and by extension Columbia Business School, have been significantly compromised by a moral cowardice that appears beyond repair,” Swieca said in a resignation letter made public this week, Fox News reported.

“This is abhorrent,” he wrote in the scathing letter. “Any other minority group on campus would never have to face anything close to this level of intimidation and hatred of Jewish and pro-Israel students experience.”

Swieca added, “To sin by silence when they should protest makes cowards of men.”

Violently attacking Jewish students on campus is not progressive but it’s what happens when we allow for hateful rhetoric to go unchecked- that includes calling Jews colonizers. Enough @Concordiapic.twitter.com/CmPieOBPUK

The reports of overnight shootings at Jewish schools in Montreal are horrifying. I condemn these violent acts of antisemitism in the strongest terms possible – and I want to be clear: This hate has no place in Canada, and we must all stand united against it.
