Jamal Khashoggi’s son and his family have been allowed to leave Saudi Arabia and are en route to the US, human rights advocates said Thursday.

The journalist’s eldest son, Salah, and the rest of the kin left after the Saudi government lifted a travel ban, Human Rights Watch said.

“Salah and his family are on a plane to (Washington) DC now,” Sarah Leah Whitson, HRW’s executive director for the Middle East and North Africa, told Agence France-Presse.

Previously, Salah, a dual citizen of the US and Saudi Arabia, was unable to leave the kingdom because his passport was restricted, according to CNN.

The family’s departure from the country comes on the same day Saudi authorities announced the Washington Post columnist’s slaying was premeditated.

They previously claimed the 59-year-old died during a brawl inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on Oct. 2.

On Tuesday, Salah was photographed looking stone-faced while shaking hands with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman, who has denied involvement in Khashoggi’s death, and his father, King Salman.

Khashoggi was a vocal critic of the crown prince.
