The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration captured the devastation left behind by recent floods north of St. Louis, Missouri, with dramatic aerial photographs.
With the mighty the Mississippi River in the upper-right-hand corner, all the other swirling brown spaces reflect flooded areas.
Hundreds of homes and businesses were swallowed up by the muddy waters — and more could be lost as rain is forecast from Thursday to Saturday in the region. The rare winter flooding have already claimed 25 lives.
