WASHINGTON — Jeb Bush took a page from Bill and Hillary Rodham Clinton on the speaking circuit, cashing in on a bonanza of paid engagements from corporations, schools and associations after leaving office in 2007.
The former Florida governor banked nearly $10 million through speaking engagements alone in less than nine years, according to a list of gigs disclosed by his presidential campaign.
His favorite recurring venue is the Seoul-based Poongsan Corporation, a group he addressed nine times, beginning in 2007. The company produces various metal products including copper and alloys for coins as well as armaments and titanium tubes.
Bush came at the invitation of company chair Jin Roy Ryu, who is listed as a trustee of the George H.W. Bush presidential library.
Ryu raised more than $1 million for the Bush library effort.
First lady Barbara Bush attended the ribbon-cutting of a Poongsan subsidiary, PMX Industries, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1992. The company has gotten major contracts with the US Mint and with the Pentagon.
A champion of school choice, Bush also addressed the Alliance for Choice in Education in 2012. In 2010, he spoke to the New York State School Boards Association, earning $15,000.
