WASHINGTON — Former veep Joe Biden has been called as the projected winner of Washington nearly a week after the polls in the Democratic primary race closed.

With 99 percent of the vote counted, Biden leads by just two percentage points — 38 percent to rival Bernie Sanders’ 36 percent, CNBC reported on Monday.

Sanders had been hoping to win Washington on March 10 after Biden’s string of resounding victories on Super Tuesday saved his campaign and saw him pull away with a large delegate lead.

The former veep’s victory in the state, which has 89 delegates up for grabs, is the latest a series of upsets over Sanders.

Biden, who now looks set to become the Democratic nominee, has 894 to Sanders’ 743 delegates.
