Former Vice President Joe Biden tried to extend an olive branch to Bernie Sanders supporters in a somber, live-streamed speech from his home Tuesday night, in which he also addressed the growing coronavirus crisis.

Speaking after picking up primary wins in Florida and Illinois, the Democratic frontrunner addressed fans of his top rival directly.

“I hear you. I know what’s at stake. I know what we have to do,” he said, standing in front of a pitch-black background and a set of American flags set up inside his home in Wilmington, Del.

“Our goal as a campaign, and my goal as a candidate for president, is to unify this party and then to unify the nation.”

Biden said that he and the leftist Vermont lawmaker “may disagree on tactics, but we share a common vision,” citing income inequality and climate change.

Supporters of Sanders “have brought a remarkable passion and tenacity to all of these issues” and “shifted the fundamental conversation in this country.”

Addressing the coronavirus crisis, Biden urged Americans to do their part to step up in the fight agains the outbreak.

“Tackling this epidemic is a national emergency akin to fighting a war, it requires us to move thoughtfully and decisively,” he said.

“This is a moment when we need our leaders to lead,” he continued, while also emphasizing the importance of “the choices and decisions we make as individuals.”

He then shifted to his primary wins of the day, saying that “it looks like once again our campaign had a very good night.

“We moved closer to securing the Democratic Party’s nomination for president,” Biden said. “And we’re doing it by building a broad coalition that we need to win in November.”
