President Biden gave a farewell address to the nation on Wednesday night, his final speech from the Oval Office before President-elect Donald Trump takes the White House on Monday.

The 82-year-old commander in chief warned against granting the presidency “unchecked” power, saying “extreme” wealth, power and influence “literally threatens our entire democracy.”

He called the past four years “one of the toughest years” in US history.

“Today, an oligarchy is taking shape in America … that literally threatens our entire democracy, our basic rights, their freedoms, and a fair shot for everyone to get ahead,” the outgoing president said.

He spoke for just under 18 minutes.

Critic: Biden showed himself to be 'venal, petty-souled fool in denial'

By Samuel Chamberlain

At National Review Online, Jeff Blehar goes scorched earth on Biden following tonight's speech.

"Biden concluded his career much as he began it over half a century ago: as a venal, petty-souled fool in denial about his own limitations and failures," Blehar writes.

Later: "Biden slurred through the single most incoherent speech of his career ... One marble-mouthed cliché after another poured from his half-opened mouth, smooth featureless pablum with all the texture and flavor of Gerber baby food."

Still later: "I would have preferred he had [said], 'America, my entire presidency has been a disastrous fraud, and I'm sorry to all of you for willingly conspiring with my wife and my staff to lie about my mental decline. May God and history alike forgive my selfishly destructive vanities.'"

Biden gave Medal of Freedom to billionaire buddies Soros, Rubenstein

By Samuel Chamberlain

In response to Biden's warning that an "oligarchy is taking shape," ProPublica reporter Alec MacGillis notes on X that he presented the Presidential Medal of Freedom to the following honorees earlier this month.

"George Soros, [net worth of] $7 billion[.]
David Rubenstein, [net worth of] $4 billion[.]"

Soros' support of Democrats and liberals is well-known, while the Biden family spent every Thanksgiving of Joe's presidency at Rubenstein's Nantucket compound.

Biden ripped for demanding rich 'pay their fair share' — after Hunter pardon

By Caitlin Doornbos

President Biden was ripped on social media Wednesday for lecturing Americans that the wealthy should “pay their fair share” of taxes — after pardoning his son for a conviction on tax evasion charges last month.

“The guy who just pardoned his son for tax evasion charges is giving the ‘pay your fair share’ speech again. What an embarrassment this dude is,” wrote Fox News Radio host Jimmy Failla in a post to X.

“He just mentioned the need to pay your ‘fair share’ of taxes - is he for real?” wrote Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) in a post to X. “Did he or Hunter Biden pay any taxes on the millions of dollars they earned through foreign business deals and trading on public office. Or no?"

Sen. Rick Scott: Biden owes the US 'formal apology'

By Caitlin Doornbos

Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) says President Biden should have said "sorry" rather than try to defend his record.

”President Biden’s 'farewell address' should have been a formal apology for the endless lawfare, inflation-fueling policies and reckless decisions made during his administration,” the Florida senator said on X.

“Biden has left American families worse today than they were four years ago. Our nation needs President Trump now more than ever. Thank God in just a few days we will MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Rep. Nancy Mace slams Biden mention of family in farewell address

By Caitlin Doornbos

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) was galled by President Biden highlighting his family during his address,

The congresswoman took a jab at first brother James and first son Hunter's foreign business dealings that haunted Biden's White House tenure.

”Atleast [sic] he admits, family is everything,” said Mace on X. “He and his family made a lot of money trading on his name.”

Biden also calls for Supreme Court term limits

By Caitlin Doornbos

President Biden also advocated for Supreme Court justices to be limited to terms of 18 years.

Again, it was hard to catch because at times his voice wavered.

Currently, federal judges, including Supreme Court justices, serve for as long as they wish.

Biden calls for Constitutional amendment to end presidential immunity

By Caitlin Doornbos

It was hard to catch early in Biden's speech, but he did call for a constitutional amendment rejecting the idea that commanders in chief are immune from prosecution for "official acts."

”We need to amend the Constitution to make clear that no president, no president, is immune from crimes that he or she commits while in office," he said.

The Supreme Court outlined the "official acts" theory in a ruling involving Trump's criminal cases last year.

Dana Perino: 'The speechwriters have already left the building'

By Samuel Chamberlain

Back on Fox, former White House press secretary Dana Perino tells Watters that she "intended to find something that I could say, 'Wow, that was great'" in Biden's speech, but came up empty.

"When he talks about dark money, does he not remember that just last week, he gave the Medal of Freedom award to George Soros?"

"He talked about the fact that they had the biggest economic rebound ever. He never mentioned COVID, which was the entire premise of his presidency."

"To me, it felt like the speechwriters have already left the building and that they asked ChatGPT to write a speech for Joe Biden in which he doesn't remember that he was president for the last four years."

David Axelrod: 'One of the best speeches I've ever heard Joe Biden give'

By Samuel Chamberlain

Over on CNN, former Barack Obama campaign strategist -- and occasional Biden critic -- David Axelrod says tonight's address was "one of the best speeches I've ever heard Joe Biden give."

His conservative fellow panelist Scott Jennings keeps it blunt when asked if he liked anything about the speech: "No, not really."

Sen. Markwayne Mullin: Biden farewell speech 'anything but unifying'

By Caitlin Doornbos

Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) joined the pile-on against outgoing President Biden

”We watched so you don’t have to," he wrote on X, "the Joe Biden farewell speech was ineffective, tired, and anything but unifying.

"Just like his presidency."

Conservative writer: Biden gave an 'offensively petulant farewell address'

By Samuel Chamberlain

National Review Online senior writer Noah Rothman pulls no punches with his X review of Biden.

"Even Biden’s offensively petulant farewell address is derivative of past presidents whose stature he seems to have consistently measured himself against," writes Rothman, a regular on Fox News.

Even Biden’s offensively petulant farewell address is derivative of past presidents whose stature he seems to have consistently measured himself against.

— Noah Rothman (@NoahCRothman) January 16, 2025

"He set out to be FDR, thought he might settle for LBJ, ended up as Carter, and is now leaning into the left’s revisionism of Ike’s farewell address. If nothing else, thuddingly unimaginative."
