An Indiana college student is accused of bashing in the skull of his girlfriend’s rabbit before warning her, “you’re next.”

Johnathan Quatroche, 20, was arrested at woman’s Muncie apartment Saturday after she got out of the shower to find her pet missing, according to Law & Crime, which cited an affidavit.

“When [the victim] became upset with [Quatroche] about the death of the rabbit, [he] stated that he killed the rabbit intentionally. [The victim] told me that [he] said ‘she had to go, and you’re next,'” officers reportedly wrote.

The “very distraught” woman told her parents, who called the police.

Officers found the remains of the pet in a dumpster outside the apartment complex.

“The rabbit’s head had been smashed and was bloody,” police wrote in the affidavit.

Quatroche, who is a student at Ball State University, would not speak with investigators and was reportedly released from jail after posting $10,000 bond in connection with charges of count of animal cruelty and one count of intimidation.

The victim, who told police she was Quatroche’s girlfriend, said he had “hit her causing bruising” in the past.
