Paul Manafort got his first sentencing date on Monday — with a federal judge penciling him in for next month.
Manafort, who has been in jail since June 2018 on conspiracy and witness tampering charges, will officially find out his fate on March 13 after pleading guilty last September.
He is facing up to 10 years in prison — and still has to be sentenced in a separate federal case in Virginia, where he was convicted of tax and bank fraud. Those charges could wind up earning the former Trump campaign manager another decade behind bars, if found guilty.
The judge in the conspiracy and witness tampering case is weighing whether Manafort breached his plea agreement by allegedly lying to special counsel Robert Mueller’s team during interviews related to the Russia probe. Manafort has denied intentionally lying to them.
Prosecutors are expected to meet with Manafort’s defense team at a closed hearing on Feb. 13 to discuss the evidence related to his alleged broken plea deal.
