The Indiana judge who was shot along with his wife through the front door of their home said the violence will not scare him off the bench — even as the mystery shooter remains at large.

Tippecanoe Superior Court 2 Judge Steven Meyer said in a statement Wednesday that he wanted “the community to know that I have strong faith in our judicial system” despite the harrowing attack Sunday that left him and his wife, Kim, hospitalized with gunshot wounds.

“This horrific violence will not shake my belief in the importance of peacefully resolving disputes,” he continued. “I remain confident we have the best judicial system in the world, and I am proud to be a part of it.”

Meyer and his wife were shot Sunday afternoon in their home in Lafayette, a suburb northwest of Indianapolis, according to police.

Judge Meyer, 66, was shot in the arm, and Kim was shot in the hip, cops said.

A 911 caller reported that someone knocked on the door and claimed they had the couple’s dog before a shot blasted through the door, according to a recording of 911 dispatch audio.

The Meyers were rushed in stable condition to a local hospital, where they are still recovering.

“I want to express my heartfelt thanks to my medical team. I am receiving excellent care and I am improving,” the judge said in his statement Wednesday.

“Kim is also deeply appreciative for the community support, and she too is healing.”

Neither husband nor wife were able to get a look at the shooter, who fled and is still being hunted by authorities. 

No motive or description of the suspect has been released.

Multiple agencies, including local cops, state police and the FBI, are involved in the active investigation.
