Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his Liberal Party are projected to win reelection with a minority government, a report said Monday.

Trudeau, whose campaign was rocked by a blackface scandal leading up to the election, is expected to beat his Conservative Party challenger and win a second term, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation reported.

Trudeau was elected to a first term four years ago, winning a national election for the Liberal Party after nearly 10 years of Conservative Party rule in Canada.

The Liberals dominated early returns on the East Coast of Canada Monday evening, leading in 25 of the 32 territories in the region.

The Liberals swept the entire region in Trudeau’s first election, securing him the prime ministership.

Trudeau’s campaign was rocked by scandal in September, when Time Magazine published photos of him wearing black face at an “Arabian Nights” themed party in the early 1990s.

The photo shows Trudeau, the son of former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, wearing the turban with white Arab-style robes while covered in the makeup.
