The gunman who opened fire in a Texas church Sunday, killing two people before he was shot dead, was identified Monday as a 43-year-old drifter with a criminal record, according to news reports.
Keith Thomas KinnunenRiver Oaks PDKeith Thomas Kinnunen, of River Oaks, was wearing a beard and a disguise when he walked into West Freeway Church of Christ at about 10:50 a.m. and opened fire, NBC DFW reported.
Kinnunen shot and killed two members of the church before he was shot dead by a volunteer security guard, Jack Wilson, a former FBI agent, and a reserve deputy sheriff.
Kinnunen was “relatively transient” but had roots in the area, FBI Special Agent Matthew DeSarno told the station.
He had a criminal record in Tarrant County that included charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in 2009 and theft of property in 2013.
He was also arrested in New Jersey in 2016 on a gun possession charge, the outlet said.
The FBI is still working to determine a motive for the shooting.
