A man who claimed to be the illegitimate child of Spain’s disgraced former King Juan Carlos died in a bar over the weekend.

Albert Sola, 66, collapsed Saturday evening after ordering a glass of red wine at the Pa i Trago bar in La Bisbal d’Empordà, El Pais reported.

“He didn’t even have time to try [the wine],” a witness said.

The death was initially attributed to a heart attack, though an investigation is ongoing, the outlet reported.

Sola, a married father of two, was adopted as a child and raised by peasants on a Mediterranean island. He told the Irish Times in 2021 that a Spanish secret agent later revealed he was the son of King Juan Carlos.

Although Spain’s Supreme Court dismissed Sola’s paternity suit against the former king in 2015, his claim was bolstered by the octogenarian’s reputation for womanizing.

After years of infidelity rumors, King Juan Carlos was forced to abdicate in 2014 after breaking his hip on an elephant-hunting safari with his lover. Two years later, a bombshell book titled “The King of 5,000 Lovers” alleged that the octogenarian was a sex addict who had hundreds of extramarital liaisons.

Undeterred by the court’s decision, Sola partnered with Ingrid Sartiau, 56, a Belgian woman who also believes she was fathered by the former monarch.

The pair took a DNA test that allegedly determined that they are likely half-siblings.

“It’s quite simple: I am the son of the king,” Sola told the Irish Times.

Known as “the little king” to patrons of the bar where he worked, Sola published a 2019 memoir called “El Monarca de La Bisbal,” or “The Monarch of La Bisbal.”

Sola’s sudden death comes just weeks after Juan Carlos controversially accepted a private invitation to the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. His son King Felipe VI and daughter-in-law Queen Letizia also attended in an official capacity.

King Juan Carlos and his wife, Queen Sofía, are currently based in Abu Dhabi, where the former monarch is evading prosecution by tax officials in both Switzerland and Spain.
