Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota was the very early winner Tuesday as the first votes were cast shortly after midnight in three small towns in New Hampshire, kicking off the primary election.

Klobuchar got eight votes, Sens. Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts each got four votes, entrepreneur Andrew Yang got three, and Joe Biden, Pete Buttigieg and Michael Bloomberg got two apiece.
Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii and billionaire businessman Tom Steyer each got one vote.

Bloomberg, who isn’t on the ballot in the Granite State, was the recipient of two Democratic write-in votes and one Republican vote.

The former New York mayor got three of the five votes cast in Dixville Notch, a tiny town in the northern tip of the state, which traditionally kicks off the primary voting in New Hampshire.

President Trump, who held a rally Monday evening in Manchester, topped the Republican ticket with 15 votes.

Slightly more than two dozen residents of Dixville Notch and two nearby towns — Millsfield and Hart’s Location — typically head to the polls shortly after midnight.

Klobuchar noted the early victory in a tweet, saying “we’re off to a great start in New Hampshire today!” that included the results of the vote in Dixville Notch.

After the chaotic Iowa caucuses last week in which an error-prone mobile phone app delayed the reporting of accurate results for days, Democrats are hoping voters in New Hampshire will begin to narrow the field.

A Quinnipiac national poll that came out Monday had Sanders leading the pack in New Hampshire with 25 percent of support and former Vice President Biden coming in second with 17 percent.

It also showed Bloomberg, the former three-term mayor of New York, surging in the state.

He got 15 percent support — up from 8 percent in a Quinnipiac poll taken on Jan. 28.
