The LAPD is still testing a knife recovered from O.J. Simpson’s former estate, despite reports that cops had ruled out the blade as a possible murder weapon, the department said Tuesday.
TMZ reported that police, hoping to shed new light on the 1994 “Crime of the Century,” have been unable to link the knife to the killings of Simpson’s ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ronald Goldman because it had no usable DNA on it.
“We’re told the microbes in the soil degraded any DNA to the point it was impossible to get a meaningful result,” the gossip site reported Tuesday.
But LAPD Officer Jane Kim told USA Today the blade is still being tested and it could take more than a week for results.
The knife was turned over to police last month by an ex-LAPD cop who said it was found during the 1998 demolition of Simpson’s former home.
