Los Angeles cops have apologized to the family of late rap superstar Notorious B.I.G. after releasing grisly details from his autopsy without first warning them, according to a report.

The Los Angeles County coroner’s office made the autopsy results public for the rapper, whose real name was Christopher Wallace, Friday.

They did it, “in the hopes that releasing the report would stimulate additional interest or bring forth witnesses or clues in the case,” the LA Times said.

“Our detectives personally spoke with the Wallace family, and apologized,” said Capt. Billy Hayes.

Authorities blamed the incident on an administrative error, the Times said.

Wallace, from Brooklyn, was shot in March 1997. The case remains unsolved.
