LANCE IS GROWLING AT COLLARS
The Lance Armstrong Foundation has launched a lawsuit against an Oklahoma company, claiming its “PurrStrong” and “BarkStrong” pet collars are copycats of the cyclist’s trademark “LiveStrong” yellow bracelet.
The “LiveStrong” bracelets sell for $1 each and have raised $70 million to fight cancer.
The animal collars, made by the for-profit Animal Charity Collar Group, come in four glow-in-the-dark colors, including yellow, and sell for $4.99. Animal charities buy the collars in bulk for $2.19 to $2.79 and resell them to raise money, said company CEO Chris Ohman.
The collars are made from a greenish yellow, while the Armstrong bracelets are a gold-yellow – the opposite end of the yellow spectrum – he said.
“I can’t imagine if they’ve already made $70 million off the bracelets alone that they would need anything from my company,” said Ohman.
