The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department was in a heated standoff Friday afternoon with a man who allegedly entered one of its stations and tried to set it on fire.

The unnamed suspect entered the LASD Century Division station in South Los Angeles with a gas can before his failed arson attempt, CBS News Los Angeles reported.

The man then fled, got into a white Lincoln Navigator and tried to escape.

Authorities chased him down and surrounded his car, asking for him to surrender at around 12:30 p.m.

The standoff ensued until 1:45 p.m. when the suspect exited his vehicle and was taken into custody, CBS LA reported.

There is no explanation for the man’s motive.
