A Los Angeles Airport Police officer and an LAPD sergeant have tested positive for the coronavirus, according to officials and a new report.

LAX spokesperson Heath Montgomery confirmed Sunday that an officer had contracted the COVID-19 bug, according to KTLA-TV.

“We are in touch with Los Angeles County Public Health,” Montgomery said. “They have the information on the officer and are working to identify any other officers or employees who may have had prolonged or close contact with this individual.”

County health officials are interviewing anyone else who may have been exposed, and following all directions from the CDC, according to Montgomery.

Officials had previously confirmed that at least two airport screeners were infected with the bug, the local station reported.

LAPD Chief Michel Moore also announced on Twitter Sunday that a “uniformed supervisor assigned to our Pacific Division” was the department’s first confirmed case of the novel coronavirus.

He first started showing flu-like symptoms on March 5 and went home to seek medical treatment, which included a test for COVID-19. The results came back positive Sunday.

Authorities said the employee’s condition was “already improving,” and he was expected to make a “full recovery.”

No other employees assigned to the department’s Pacific Division have shown symptoms or have been isolated, according to Moore.

The number of coronavirus cases in California has jumped to 335, Gov. Gavin Newsom said, according to KABC-TV. Six COVID-19 related deaths have been reported state-wide.

In Los Angeles County, the number of confirmed cases has reached 69.

The city’s mayor, Eric Garcetti, on Monday ordered businesses such as bars, nightclubs, gyms, bowling alleys and movie theaters to close, according to the report.

Restaurants are no longer allowed to serve sit-down meals, but delivery, takeout and drive-thru services are permitted.
